In the article, he explains that for the last 5 to 10 years we’ve been hearing about enterprises centralising all of their data in order to make the most out of it.

What began with the use of data warehouses, more recently evolved into using a new type of architecture called a data lake. But what businesses are now finding is that limitations remain – most notably the fact that those managing data are not actually the domain experts.

Now, a new design concept – what Gartner calls the Data Fabric, has emerged, allowing enterprises to use decentralised architecture, so that the real business experts can work alongside the tech-savvy specialists to make better decisions on data.
